Does Europe has anything to say in US-China AI War?

European AI Agents 2025: Record Investments & Game-Changing Startups to Watch
Today’s newsletter explores the European AI agent landscape making headlines with huge funding rounds and some breakthrough innovations. We spotlight the developers who have secured record investments since the start of 2024 and introduce you to the European companies poised to redefine the AI agents sector in 2025.
Record-Breaking Investment Rounds
VC’s have been quick to recognize the disruptive potential of AI agents.
Helsing, from Germany, impressed investors with a €450m Series C round. Helsing is building an AI Agent - Centaur, to, well, fly fighter jets and defend Europe. Their mantra, "For a strong Europe," says quite a bit, and they identify as a new type of defence company. On a slightly smaller scale, H Company, from France, raised a $220m seed round after debuting an AI agent that automates complex tasks for businesses, showcasing the growing appetite for automation solutions.
Not to be outdone, Synthesia and ElevenLabs, both based in the UK, secured $180m in their respective funding rounds. Synthesia continues to transform video content production with AI-powered avatars, while ElevenLabs is setting new standards in text-to-voice applications. These massive investments signal a robust confidence from venture capitalists in the potential of AI agents to drive business transformation.
Among the standout players is Mistral, the Paris-based startup that recently raised a staggering €600m in a combined equity and debt Series B round. Not only is Mistral Europe’s only remaining player building foundational large language models, but its foray into customer experience AI agents—through a strategic partnership with Cisco—underscores its ambition to influence multiple sectors.
European Companies to Watch in 2025
Beyond the headline-grabbing fundraises, a host of European startups are capturing VC attention as the must-watch companies for 2025. Cognigy, from Germany, is revolutionizing customer service with its no-code AI platform, which seamlessly integrates advanced conversational agents into enterprise systems. Meanwhile, Parloa is enhancing voice and chat automation, providing large enterprises with tools to improve operational efficiency and customer engagement.
In the HR arena, Maki People from France is turning heads with its conversational HR agent, which streamlines talent acquisition and is already trusted by industry giants like H&M and BNP Paribas. In the mobility sector, Germany’s Spleenlab is making waves with its AI perception software, which enables safer navigation for drones and autonomous vehicles.
Other notable mentions include Sweden’s Lovable, which democratises software development by turning natural language into production-ready code, and Switzerland’s Unique, which deploys AI agents to optimize financial services with targeted, industry-specific solutions. Not to be overlooked are innovative players like DeepOpinion from Austria, Nevermined from Switzerland. One of most interesting of the bunch is Juna.ai from Germany, at the forefront of integrating AI agents into real-world industrial and operational environments.
So our question - if Europe has anything to say in US/China "AI War” - probably not much in Generative AI chapter, however, on agentic AI? Maybe. Let’s wait and see, let’s wait and see.
Until next time!
